Cafe Thanh Truc, perched at 1037 S 8th St in Philadelphia, is a Vietnamese gem that resonates deeply with food lovers. From my experience, this cozy establishment serves authentic dishes that transport you straight to the heart of Vietnam. The standout offerings include their irresistibly rich bun bo hue and comforting chicken congee, both receiving rave reviews for their flavors and generous portions. Many patrons, like Cherry Du who praised the bun bo hue as one of the best she's tried, reflect a consensus on the quality and authenticity that Cafe Thanh Truc delivers. Other guests have shared their love for the barbecue pork banh mi, noting both its taste and sizable portion—an often hard-to-come-by combination in casual dining. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, although the language barrier might add to its charm, enhancing the authentic feel of a local eatery. The friendly staff, who are often described as sweet and welcoming, add a human touch that keeps customers returning. Overall, Cafe Thanh Truc isn't just a meal; it’s an experience steeped in culture and flavor, making it a must-visit spot for anyone craving genuine Vietnamese cuisine in Philadelphia.

This place is a hole in the wall. No one speak English and the food was fantastic. I would highly recommend this spot for a no frills delicious meal

The bun bo hue here is amazing! I can’t say that I am an expert on Vietnamese food/flavors, but I’ve had a loooot of good Vietnamese food over the years and this is definitely one of the best bun bo hues I’ve had. My husband ordered the bbq pork banh mi, which he also really enjoyed. Parking is difficult in this area, but I’m so glad we gave this place a try!

I had lunch here yesterday and my BBQ Pork bahn mi was delicious. They also gave me a cup of water to enjoy with my meal (on the house)! The portion sizes here are amazing and everyone is so nice! This was my second visit - my first visit was in November and I got the same bahn mi and Pho with shrimp. The Pho was amazing and it was so much of it that I took it home and shared it with my partner! Always a great value at this place!

The very best Vietnamese I've had. The ladies that work are so sweet. Go to the Grandma's for the best cooking!

Fantastic food - fresh ingredients, delicious recipes and courteous service. I got the #40 vermicelli and shrimp - deliciously seasoned and grilled - unbelievable flavor. My friend got the steak pho - broth was amazing and the meat was delicious. My other friend got vermicelli with short rip and shrimp - also great. We got the summer roll for the table - everything was super fresh and good. Light and flavorful but filling.

Have been waiting for Viet Bistro to open for a while now, so was very excited when it suddenly had a "Grand Opening" banner up and quickly called some foodie friends to join me for lunch so we could try many of its offerings! As regulars at Huong Tram in the former Hoa Binh Plaza, we've been longing for a great pho spot to open closer than 6th and 11th Streets on Washington Avenue (also great), and Viet Bistro did not disappoint. (Additionally, as Melissa P. noted, we recognized some familiar faces in the kitchen!) We ordered a couple appetizers: Egg Rolls (cha gio), which were what we usually think of as "spring rolls," and Spring Rolls, which were what we usually think of as "summer rolls," both of which were tasty. We ordered a couple types of pho and soup, and some extra bowls: Pho Tai Nam (flank, steak), Viet Bistro Special Pho (flank, steak, tripe, beef ball), Hu Tieu Do Bien (seafood noodle soup), all of which were hot and delicious. (The broth was good, but the consensus was that we expect it to have even more depth of flavor next time we visit, because the restaurant was literally in a prepping-to-open frenzy late last night!) We ordered a couple other dishes to share: Banh Mi Thit Nurong (Barbecue Pork)--the bread was perfection--and Bun Bo Xao Sa (rice vermicelli with lemongrass beef and mixed vegetable), both of which had terrific flavor. And sampled the delicious Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk--note, they have bubble tea! Overall, service was friendly and timely, the price was just right (15.00 minimum credit card), and, at least for now, it's BYOB! We did initially receive the wrong banh mi and Pho Tai instead of Pho Tai Nam, but the mistakes were quickly corrected and didn't take away from our experience. Welcome to the neighborhood, Viet Bistro!

This is one of the best place to get Hu Tieu Nam Vang (Phnom Penh Style Noodles). This place reminds me of the little noodle stall in SaiGon with the smell of stove cooking and warming foods in the back. We tried the infamous dry noodles, egg rolls, and meatball soup. All came out super warm and delicious. They also have a great variety of Banh Mi and Vermicelli Noodles dishes as well. Will definitely come back for more homestyle noodles dishes!
